Zach Koops is a real estate agent and Realtor with REAL Broker and a content creator. Zach has been an agent for 10+ years in the state of Virginia, serving the greater Harrisonburg area.
In addition to fueling his business of helping clients buy and sell property, Zach also co-runs a successful home flipping business, Flipping Shenandoah.
Both of these businesses are fueled by their social media content, and Advanced Real Estate Agents was created to help others learn how to master lead generation through expert content creation and execution.

How I Got Here
My story really begins when I graduated from James Madison University here in Harrisonburg in 2004. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in the Arts with a concentration in Theatre and acting.
I thought I was going to move to Hollywood and pursue a career in television, seek stardom, get rich, and live the life…but that all changed when I realized just how much I would be giving up by leaving the Shenandoah Valley. My family, friends, and church…everyone was here! I knew this was my home.
Tradeshowdirect
Not long after graduating, I began working at a company called Tradeshowdirect, which sells displays and large format signs for companies that exhibit at trade shows. It’s a business I didn’t even know existed. After a few years working in the production department, I was bumped up to sales, where I became addicted to the satisfaction of helping my clients achieve their goals.
My Marriage
During that time, I fell for a girl at my church, and after a bit of pursuing…we began dating. We were engaged not long after and got married within a year or so. Things weren’t the easiest as we both brough baggage to the relationship, but we attended counseling and worked hard. Unfortunately, mostly due to her just-then diagnosed bipolar disorder, my wife ended up going off the rails and left me. This was the hardest time of my life and things at work were getting harder as well. It was then that I decided to pursue a career change and take back control of my life - with real estate.
Real Estate Career
I was blessed to be invited to join the top producing team in Harrisonburg in the fall of 2013. It was on this local team that I honed my skills, specifically on what I already knew how to do well - follow up with every lead and convert them. I was growing my social network, but I knew there was more that I could do to generate my own leads with social media, I just didn’t know how. So I hired a coach, learned and practiced the craft, and the leads started coming in!
Big Life Change
I knew I didn’t want to be single forever, and I felt in my heart God had a plan for me to have a family. So in 2017, I began dating again. After a few no-gos, eventually Kelly and I found each other in an online dating app. She was divorced as well, under different circumstances, and we connected deeply on the pain of our experiences, our recoveries, and our faith in God to get us through. We took it slow and steady, and married in March of 2019. She is truly the love of my life. Our son was born in 2020 and I get to be stepdad to two awesome bonus boys as well!
Not long after our son was born, I started thinking more about my career. And after nearly 10 years with my team, I reached a point where I (again) wanted to be out on my own. So in the summer of 2023, I made the difficult decision to step out from the team and brand as Zach Koops Real Estate with eXp Realty.
About six months later, a couple industry leaders in my area left eXp for a company called REAL broker. After some talking with them, I found myself on a video call with Clayton Gits and Damien Gettier discussing the idea of joining REAL broker.
I could tell almost instantly that the company was a better fit for me than where I was. The mantra “Work Hard. Be Kind.” really resonated with me, and I appreciated that the CEO, Tamir Poleg, and the President, Sharran Srivatsa, had a bold vision for where they wanted to take REAL (and they had the skills and talent they would need to make that happen!).
REAL also offered something that eXp did as well - and that was an additional stream of income in the form of revenue share for helping the company grow. With my new life circumstances, REAL offered me an opportunity to still earn a living while doing less transactions and spending more time with my new family.
My Life Today
Being self-employed has its challenges, but it was the best decision I ever made. As a real estate agent at REAL broker, I have the pleasure of promoting my personal brand with the backing of industry experts all over the world. I’m able to collaborate and learn like I never have before, so that I can earn and give like I never have before. As the company grows here in Virginia and beyond, I have the opportunity to earn passive income that will allow me to not only provide for my family, but spend more time with them. Joining REAL broker has been one of the best decisions I ever made.
